An endometrial biopsy is an exam to check on the quality of the mucosal layer of the uterus. This cell line is the tissue where the embryo will implant. In the first days after nidation the embryo will feed itself from this tissue, witch start to produce nutriciënts just after the ovulation.
Sometimes we find inflammatory cells in a biopsy. These cells will eliminate bacteries that have passed the cervical canal. If the presence of these white blood cells is too abundant we speak of infection. An antibiotic may be the solution.
An endometrial biopsy is performed as an outpatiënt procedure during the consultation.
With an aspiration canula the uterine cavity is sounded and a sample of endometrium is aspirated. In general this causes only minor disconfort. An empty bladder is not required.
Practical : An appointment is given during the first consultation. You can fix an appointment yourself at the desk of gynaecology or at tel nr : 02/8910956. The exam is commonly executed in the second half of the female cycle. You may not have tempted to become pregnant in the cycle of the exam.
